MANSFIELD, Pa. -- For the first time this season, the fourth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team was on the wrong end of the scoreboard as KU was downed 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at Mansfield in a non-conference game at Van Norman Field.
The Golden Bears (6-1 overall) had won their opening six games of the season, the best start to a season for the program since 2007. It was KU's first game in 10 days, since a 4-0 victory over Wingate on Sunday, Sept. 18. Even though it was against a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference team in Mansfield (5-3), the game was not counted as a conference game.
The Mounties scored a goal in the first quarter and another in the third for cushion. Kutztown had its chances, holding a 13-6 advantage in shots, but Mansfield, which led 5-4 in attempts on goal, capitalized on its chances. KU also earned 14 penalty corners to Mansfield's one.
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with three saves for the Maroon and Gold.
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) led the offense with three shots on goal, while
Greenleigh McGehee (New Tripoli, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh) had the other one.
Kutztown will look to bounce back once PSAC play begins with its next game this Saturday, Oct. 1, at West Chester. The game is set for 1 p.m.
