WINGATE, N.C. -- No. 5 Kutztown University field hockey concluded its brief, two-day trip down to the Carolinas with its second victory in as many days, defeating Wingate University 4-0 Sunday afternoon in a non-conference game.
The Golden Bears (6-0 overall) have now won their first six games to start the season.
Freshman
Erin Gonzalez (East Earl, Pa./Garden Spot) had a big part in the offensive success for the Maroon and Gold, scoring her fifth and sixth goals of the season, tying
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) for the team lead. Gonzalez netted the game's opening goal just 3:00 in, followed by another in the 21st minute to push KU's lead to 2-0 in the second quarter.
Jillian Buchman (Drums, Pa./Hazleton) and
Megan Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) scored 5:24 in-between each other in the third quarter to round out the scoring for Kutztown.
Sierra Jester (Felton, Del./Lake Forest) earned her first point on the year, assisting on Doyle's goal.
KU outshot Wingate 27-5 overall, 15-1 on cage, while holding a 22-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) finished with one save and earned the shutout victory, her second in-a-row.
Kutztown has a 10 day break before its next game, Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Mansfield at 4 p.m.
