Men’s tennis blanked at Jefferson

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Kutztown men's tennis came up short against Jefferson Saturday afternoon in a non-conference match, dropping all seven points in 7-0 loss at the Abraham J. Salaman Courts.

KU, which was playing its first road match of the year, was swept in doubles and lost all six singles points in straight sets to drop below .500 for the first time this season.

The Golden Bears (1-2 overall) kept it close in the doubles. At doubles flight one, Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) and Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) fought hard in a 6-4 defeat to Jules Thibault and Hannibal Borg, while Jacob Bosler (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and Lucas Cherniak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini) also fell 6-4 in a tight battle at flight three.

With plenty of confidence, Jefferson (1-0 overall) continued its winning ways when it came time for singles play. Kutztown's best results came at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, as German Lopez Andujar defeated Barcelo in two tiebreak sets 7-6(1), 7-6(3) at flight one, while Hubert Theriault won 7-5, 7-5 against Perez at flight two.

Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) and Neal Devkaran (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) won three games in their singles matches at flights three and four respectively, as they both fell by the same 6-2, 6-1 score line. At No. 5 singles, Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) won five games in a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Mario Antonio, while Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) collected two games in a 6-2, 6-0 loss to Hannibal Borg at No. 6 singles.

Kutztown will look to get back into the win column next week as it heads to Virginia to take on Mary Baldwin on Friday, Sept. 23, at 2 p.m.
