STAUNTON, Va. -- Everything went the way of the Kutztown University men's tennis team in Friday's 9-0 road sweep of Mary Baldwin.
The Golden Bears won all six singles matches in straight sets and blew through doubles. Kutztown did not drop a game in victories at first and third doubles, and third, fifth and sixth singles.
KU's (2-2) top pair of
Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) and
Joaquin Perez (Pachuca, Mexico/Escuela Americana) completed an 8-0 unblemished win over Eric Leyton and Robby Larson, while third flight entries
Jacob Bosler (Elkton, Md./Elkton) and
Lucas Cherniak (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Escuela Superior de Comercio Carlos Pellegrini) accomplished the same feat against the Fighting Squirrels' (0-1) Christian Schultz and Luis Monjes.
Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) and
Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) made sure the Maroon and Gold went to singles with a 3-0 lead, beating Connor Lindhjem and Jay Turner, 8-2, at second doubles.
In singles play, No. 3 Devkaran beat Larson 6-0, 6-0; No. 5
Emmitt Robinson (Ingersoll, Ontario/Ingersoll District Collegiate Institute) took care of Monjes 6-0, 6-0; and No. 6 Gincauskas swept Adrian Santiago 6-0, 6-0. KU also got wins from No. 1 Barcelo over Lindhjem 6-1, 6-1, No. 2 Perez over Leyton 6-0, 6-1 and No. 4 Arizpe over Turner 6-1, 6-1.
Kutztown returns to the Keystone Courts Saturday where they'll take on Frostburg State at 1 p.m.
