NEW ORLEANS, La. – Kutztown University women's rugby won two of its three matches Saturday in the Division I Club bracket pool play and advanced to the quarterfinal round Sunday at the Collegiate Rugby Championships in New Orleans, La.
The Golden Bears defeated the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in the opener Saturday morning, holding on 15-12.
Maddy Forster (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone),
Megan Babinsky (Barnesville, Pa./Mahanoy Area) and
Alyssa Arena (Lititz, Pa./C Milton Wright) had the three tries for KU.
Kutztown dropped its second match of pool play, 26-15, to the University of Texas. Arena recorded two tries and Lexi Swavely had one for KU.
The Maroon and Gold earned their spot in the quarterfinal round with a 33-5 victory over the University of Central Missouri in the final match of pool play Saturday evening. Forster led the way with two tries, followed by one each from Swavely,
Jenna Wilson (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) and Kaylee Brulliea. There were two conversions each from
Matilda Sullivan (Dumfries, Va./Forest Park) and Forster.
Kutztown will now take on Roger Williams University in the quarterfinals tomorrow, Sunday, May 29, at 9:40 a.m.
