KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Nationally-ranked West Chester University was coming off a three-game sweep of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division's top team, Millersville, last weekend. WCU continued its run of conference wins, taking down Kutztown 16-5 Friday afternoon at North Campus Field.
Â
It was the final home, PSAC game this season for the Golden Bears (10-32, 4-18).
Â
Graduate students
Zach Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) and
Brandon Heere (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) both finished with two hits, leading the KU offense, which finished with six overall.
Mitchell Peers (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) and
Colin Kelly (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) both had one for Kutztown, which was outhit 12-6 total.
Â
One of Moretski's two hits was a home run. It was his second longball in as many games and gave the Maroon and Gold their first run of the game, halting 12 unanswered runs in the first five innings by the Golden Rams (25-9, 13-6). That started a five-run, bottom of the sixth that cut its deficit to 12-5. Two West Chester errors allowed Kutztown to score twice. Kelly also drove in a run to highlight the frame.
Â
The Golden Rams, however, answered in the top of the seventh, scoring three runs on a triple to push their advantage back to double digits at 15-5. WCU capped the scoring with a solo home run in the eighth.
Â
Ethan Martini (Trevose, Pa./Father Judge) and
Brennan Rozich (Oxford, Pa./Oxford) scored runs for KU and
Mike Kelly (Schwenksville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had a stolen base.
Â
Kutztown travels to West Chester tomorrow, Saturday, April 30, for two games beginning at noon, in the final PSAC matchup of the season.
