WILMINGTON, Del. -- Competing for the first time in two-and-a-half months, the Kutztown University women's bowling team defeated Felician and St. Thomas Aquinas at Saturday's Griffin Baker Classic on the lanes of Bowlero Wilmington. Prior to its first match, the Golden Bears honored their 2022 seniors
Ashley Fister (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy),
Lindsey Gotwalt (Hanover, Md./Meade) and
Madison Lund (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg).
KU finished seventh of eight teams in the overall standings with a total pinfall of 4,176 for a 167.0 average.
With a first round bye, the team of Fister, Gotwalt,
Ally Sipe (York, Pa./Central York),
Eleni Feggulis (South River, N.J./South River) and Lund rolled an 842.
Megan Hanaway (Forked River, N.J./Lacey Township) joined Fister, Gotwalt, Feggulis and Lund in a 917-819 setback to Wilmington (Del.), before Fister,
Jordan Dean (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport South Manor), Hanaway, Feggulis and Lund took down Felician 852-821 for the Bears' (24-15) first win of the day. Kutztown dropped the first three games, but roared back with sizable victories of 201-139 in the fourth game and 198-163 in the fifth.
Caldwell edged the Maroon and Gold 803-770, but KU ended the day on a high note with an 893-681 win over St. Thomas Aquinas as Alexis Schweier entered the lineup. The Bears posted back-to-back 200+ games to finish with a 211 in game four and a 201 in game five.
Lund led Kutztown on the day with an 18.96 average.
Wilmington (Del.) took the team win with 4,439 pins (177.6 average), 21 better than 23rd-ranked Adelphi at 4,418 (176.7 average). Molloy, Bloomfield and Caldwell completed the rest of the top five.
Kutztown will take part in a separate one-day tournament, the Baker Griffin Classic II, at Bowlero Wilmington on Sunday. The Bears' opening match with Bloomfield begins at 9:15 a.m.
