Men’s Basketball dominates first half, holds off Clarion for second straight victory

KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Coming off of their first win of the season Friday night in overtime, Kutztown men's basketball made it two in a row with a convincing victory over Clarion, winning 76-64 Saturday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup at Keystone Arena.

The starters led the way for the Golden Bears (2-5 overall, 2-0 PSAC), as four of the five starters finished in double figures. Robert Tucker (Philadelphia, Pa./Paul Robeson) was a key contributor on both sides of the court, registering his fifth double-double of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Kyree Generett (York, Pa./William Penn) also finished with a team-high 16 points while adding six rebounds and four assists.

Both teams came out with a lot of energy and a quick tempo to start the game. Clarion (2-4 overall, 0-2 PSAC) forced multiple turnovers early but squandered those opportunities with uncontested misses underneath the basket.

After a sloppy first few minutes, Kutztown found their rhythm, jumping out to a 22-7 lead midway through the first half. The Golden Bears led by 23 at one point in the half and took a 38-21 advantage into the break.

The second half saw the Golden Eagles trying desperately to get back into the game. Despite Kutztown's 24 turnovers to Clarion's zero, KU's defense held tight to maintain a double-digit lead the rest of the way. The Golden Bears finished with 48 rebounds, which was more than double the number of rebounds from the Golden Eagles (23).

Josh Samec (Tresckow, Pa./Hazleton) scored 13 points, with nine coming from behind the three-point line. Wesley Butler (Reading, Pa./Reading) contributed 11 points and six rebounds, while Chase Whippen (Arlington, Va./Westfield) added seven points off the bench.

Kutztown will look to make it three consecutive victories when they head to IUP in a couple of weeks on Sunday, Dec. 18. Tip-off for that one will be at 4 p.m.
