Volleyball outlasts West Chester in five-set thriller

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Kutztown University women's volleyball climbed back from down 2-1 to defeat West Chester University 3-2 by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 26-28, 25-18, 15-11 in a five-set thriller in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Eastern Division competition at Keystone Arena.

The Golden Bears (10-8 overall, 4-3 PSAC East) bounced back from a 3-0 loss to Millersville less than 24 hours prior to push ahead towards another win streak. KU had previously won two East matches in-a-row over Lock Haven and Bloomsburg.

It's the first victory over the Golden Rams (13-6, 3-4) since Oct. 12, 2018, and just the second win in the last 17 matches overall between the two teams. Kutztown's four PSAC victories is tied for the most since 2017, and it still has seven conference matches to play this season.

Adrianna Derstine (Barto, Pa./Boyertown) finished with season-highs of 29 kills and three aces, to go along with 14 digs and two aces. Sadie Doss (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Mechanicsburg), playing against her former team, finished with 26 kills and nine digs. Jasmine Mooney (Lehighton, Pa./Marian Catholic) also had season-highs in 11 kills and four blocks. Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) recorded a career-high 57 assists and had 18 digs. Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) led the defense with 27 digs and five assists.

Kutztown jumped out ahead early and stayed there winning the opening set. After dropping the next two it looked as if the match would've gone West Chester's way, but KU battled back to take the next two sets and celebrate pink day.

Kutztown hosts East Stroudsburg next Friday, Oct. 14, at 7 p.m., looking to get the better of the Warriors after falling in the first meeting 3-2 on Sept. 16.
