KU women’s soccer ranked seventh in NCAA Atlantic regional ranking

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- The Kutztown University women's soccer team (9-4-3, 8-4-3 PSAC East) came in at No. 7 in the Atlantic regional ranking released by the NCAA on Wednesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears appear in the seventh spot after being named one of the teams under consideration for a place in the NCAA Tournament in last week's rankings. KU would be the last team in the field out of the Atlantic region if the tournament started today. The third and final regional rankings will be released next Wednesday before the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 7.

The PSAC East regular season champions West Chester came in at the top of the rankings, followed by West Virginia State and Frostburg State to round out the top three. Bloomsburg, Concord, and Gannon are the three other teams, along with the Golden Bears, who would have a spot in the big dance if the postseason started today. No. 8 Mercyhurst and No. 9 Fairmont State are the last two teams in this edition of the rankings and currently sit on the outside looking in.

KU is coming off a big 3-1 win against Lock Haven on Wednesday evening. Second-half goals from Bridget Curtis (Warrington, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Sadie Goad (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley) only 35 seconds apart helped Erik Burstein's squad secure its ninth win of the season.

That win, along with an East Stroudsburg loss against Bloomsburg, helped the Golden Bears secure the No. 3 seed in the PSAC Tournament. KU will travel to No. 2 Bloomsburg next Tuesday, Nov. 1 to open the postseason at a time to be determined. The Huskies won both regular season matchups against the Golden Bears and are the No. 4 team in the Atlantic region.

KU has one final regular season game this Saturday, Oct. 29, against Millersville at Keystone Field. It's also Senior Day, where the Golden Bears will honor Kylee MacLeod (Pottstown, Pa./Owen J. Roberts), Madison Fey (Zionsville, Pa./Emmaus), Julia Belfonti (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin), and Ally Doyle (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown), along with graduate student Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East). That game will kick off at 1 p.m.
