KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- The Kutztown University women's soccer team dropped a tightly-contested defensive battle to No. 22 Bloomsburg 1-0 Wednesday afternoon.
Chances were few and far between for both teams, but Brooke Foster's goal in the 40th minute for Bloomsburg (11-3-0, 9-3-0 PSAC East) was enough for the Huskies to secure the victory. The teams only had a combined six shots on goal, with the Golden Bears having a 4-2 advantage.
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), Madison Fey (Zionsville, Pa./Emmaus), Sadie Goad (Reading, Pa./Schuylkill Valley), and Lizzy Deardorff (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) registered shots on frame for KU (7-3-3, 6-3-3 PSAC East). Emme Wolfel (Pottstown, Pa./Pottstown) made one save in the net for the Golden Bears while Riley Spingler made four saves opposite to her.
The entire game was a chippy affair, with both teams struggling to control possession and create meaningful chances. Bloomsburg's goal came off a free kick where the ball was deflected to the feet of Foster who scored the game's only goal.
As the clock ticked down, KU turned up the pressure and dominated the final 15 minutes of play. Despite that, the Golden Bears couldn't put a shot on frame and were defeated 1-0.
The loss breaks up KU's five-game unbeaten streak and puts the Golden Bears six points behind Bloomsburg for the second seed in the PSAC East with four regular season games remaining.
The Golden Bears will be away from the comfy confines of Keystone Field for their next three matches, starting off with Mansfield this Saturday, Oct. 15. That game will kick off at 7:15 p.m.
