Women’s cross country moves up to No. 6 in Week 4 USTFCCCA Atlantic Region Poll

NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The Kutztown University women's cross country team came in at No. 7 in the week 4 edition of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) DII women's cross country Atlantic region poll released by the organization Tuesday afternoon.

The Golden Bears jump up one spot from last week's rankings following a first-place finish at the DeSales Invitational over the weekend. Colleen Gilbert (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and Sophia Knerr (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) shined for the Golden Bears again on the weekend, finishing in first and third place respectively. That duo has been the top finishers for the Golden Bears at the last three meets.

Ray Hoffman's Golden Bears had finished runners-up at the first three meets of the season before finally getting over the hump at DeSales.

Charleston (W. Va.) remains the number one team in the rankings, with Pennslyvania State Athletic Conference schools Slippery Rock and Seton Hill coming in at No. 2 and No. 3. Nine of the ten top-ranked teams come from the PSAC.

KU has the weekend off before taking part in its last meet of the regular season at the Last Chance Run Fast Invitational hosted by Lebanon Valley College. It will take place on Oct. 21, with the women's race starting at 4:30 p.m.
