MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Collin Wickramaratna (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee),
Kibwe McNair (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) and
Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) all had pins, while
KJ Fenstermacher (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) won in his Kutztown debut as the 11th-ranked Golden Bears cruised to a 35-9 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference road dual victory Friday night at Millersville.
The Maroon and Gold remained perfect on the season at 7-0 (2-0 PSAC) ahead of next Friday's home dual with fellow unbeaten No. 13 Pitt-Johnstown in a match that will have conference championship implications.
Kutztown was never threatened in this one, however, winning the first five weights to collect a 22-0 lead and going on to claim 8-of-10 regulation bouts. It is the 15th straight dual victory for the Golden Bears over the Marauders (4-3, 1-2 PSAC) going back to the 2005-06 season.
The top of coach
Robert Fisher's lineup has been so reliable and that trend continued Friday night as
Matt Wilde (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown) controlled Bryce Beatty for a 12-2 major decision at 125 pounds and fourth-ranked
Collin Wickramaratna (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) picked up an early second period pin (3:25) of Devin Flannery at 133.
Wilde (6-1) and Wickramaratna (7-0) are a combined 13-1 in duals this season.
Fenstermacher, a three-time District XI champion and former state place-winner at Northampton, earned a win in his first match as a Golden Bear. The redshirt junior, who wrestled at Division I West Virginia in 2018-19, scored a pair of takedowns, two back points, an escape and received a riding time point in an 8-2 defeat of Timothy Uhler at 141.
Kutztown also got a 5-1 decision by
Michael Cusick (McDonald, Pa./South Fayette) against Alex Bendinelli in the 149-pound bout and strengthened its grip on the match with
Kibwe McNair's (Lansdale, Pa./Methacton) first dual pin (2:18) of Jonathan Parrilla at 157 that made it 22-0.
The Marauders tried to seize some momentum with a decision at 165 and a fall at 174, while the Bears were hit with a point deduction following the 174 match for failing to control the mat area.
Still holding a comfortable 21-9 lead, Kutztown went back to work with newcomer
Matthew Weinberg (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) quickly pinning Anthony Giampietro 2:02 into their 184-pound match.
Brian Kennerly (Drexel Hill, Pa./Upper Darby) and top-ranked
Andrew Dunn Jr. (Bethlehem, Pa./Bethlehem Catholic) notched major decisions at 197 and 285, respectively, to provide the final margin of victory.
The Golden Bears and Mountain Cats are scheduled for a 7:30 start Friday, Jan. 28, from Keystone Arena. Kutztown will be looking to snap UPJ's six-match winning streak in the series.
