KUTZTOWN, Pa. -- Jefferson dealt the Kutztown University men's tennis team a 7-0 setback in its 2021-22 season-opener Saturday afternoon at the Keystone Courts.
The Golden Bears pushed their visitors in all three doublse matches, but were unable to come up with a win.
Ethan Moyer (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and
Kurt Abell (Sinking Spring, Pa./Conrad Weiser) had the most success claiming five games to pull within 6-5 before submitting to Mateo Navarro and Odissey Kavak, 7-5.
Kutztown's (0-1) No. 1 pair of
Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro) and
Sebastian Arizpe (Puebla, Mexico/Colegio Humboldt de Puebla) fell 6-3, while
Neal Devkaran (Fairfax, Va./Paul VI Catholic) and
Justin Gincauskas (Mississauga, Ontario/Cawthra Park Secondary) dropped a 6-2 decision at No. 2.
Jefferson (2-0) continued to play well in singles, posting straight set wins at all six flights. Gincauskas won five games off Enrique Soto Ballester at No. 4 in a 6-2, 6-3 defeat, while Barcelo (No. 1) and Arizpe (No. 3) won three games each in their respective duels.
