PSAC Release

KUTZTOWN, Pa.
Mitchell Peers (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown) of the Kutztown University baseball team was on base and driving in runs a lot last week. The junior rode his bat to this week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) East Division Athlete of the Week honors, announced by the league office Monday.

Peers had at least one hit in each of the fives games he started for the Golden Bears (13-9 overall, 7-9 PSAC) last week. For the week, he totaled 10 hits, including two homeruns and three doubles, 12 RBIs and six runs. In a win at East Stroudsburg last Tuesday, Peers set new season-highs in hits, going 3-for-4 at the plate, and RBI with five, also adding two runs. He went 2-for-4 with an RBI and two runs scored in game one vs. Mansfield, and followed that up with a 1-for-3 game and three RBI. In the two games against the Mounties the next day, Peers combined to go 4-for-6 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Peers has started 21 games for KU this season. His 21 RBIs is tied for the team lead.

Kutztown begins a four-game series with Shippensburg University this weekend. The first two games on Friday, April 9, are on the road, while the two teams come to North Campus Field the following day for another doubleheader. First pitch on each day is scheduled for noon.
