SPARKILL, N.Y. -- With PSAC play in the rearview mirror, the Kutztown University men's tennis team traveled to Saint Thomas Aquinas for a Tuesday matinee. The Golden Bears were defeated by a tough Spartan side, 6-1, at the Riley Family Courts.
The Golden Bears' lone point came from a default victory at sixth singles. STAC (3-1) also defaulted at third doubles, but still picked up the available point by posting matching 6-1 wins in the top two flights.
Gonzalo Barcelo (San Pedro, Argentina/Nuestra Senora del Socorro), a freshman from San Pedro, Argentina, provided the Bears' stiffest opposition at first singles. He battled the Spartans' top player, Lennart Lehmann, in a 6-2, 7-5 defeat. Kutztown (2-6) dropped second, third and fifth singles in straight sets, while fourth singles played an eight-game proset with the match already decided.
The Golden Bears have one remaining match, Monday, April 26, at home against Harford Community College at 2:30 p.m. It won't count against KU's NCAA record since Harford is not a four-year degree granting institution that falls under the NCAA's countable opponents guidelines.
