Joslyn Stoltz nets winner as No. 3 Women's Soccer defeats No. 22 West Chester 1-0 in season finale

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. –  For the second game in-a-row, sophomore midfielder Joslyn Stoltz (Levittown, Pa./Calvary Christian Academy) was the hero of a 1-0 game as the lone goal scorer. Stoltz's second half tally, her third of the season, sent the third-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory Saturday afternoon on the road at No. 22 West Chester University in the regular season finale.

With a strong defensive effort, the ninth shutout on the year, the Golden Bears ended their regular season on a high note. The Golden Rams were the only team to best the Golden Bears so far this season, winning 2-1 back on Oct. 9. The Maroon and Gold head into the post season with a 17-1 record and are 15-1 in conference, winners of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East division regular season. The 15 conference wins is a program record and the 17 wins so far ranks second-best in program history.

The lone goal in the game scored by Stoltz came in the 58th minute. Kutztown played the ball into the 18-yard box, the Golden Rams attempted to clear it out twice unsuccessfully before Stoltz found herself alone in front of goal. She wasted no time sending it to the back of the net putting Kutztown into the lead.

With the assistance of another strong performance from the Kutztown defense, Cassandra Baker (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) earned her third career shutout, finishing with three saves. The Golden Bear offense racked up fifteen shots, six of which were on goal, compared to nine total shots for West Chester, three of which were on net.

The PSAC Tournament begins on Tuesday, Nov. 9, with top-seeded Kutztown scheduled to take on Millersville at 6 p.m., from Keystone Field. The Marauders have proven to be formidable competition taking the Golden Bears into double overtime the last time the two teams met.
