Women’s Volleyball falls at Bloomsburg in regular season finale, head coach John Gump’s final match

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team was unable to get the better of Bloomsburg University on Saturday night, finishing off its regular season with a 3-0 defeat in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division competition.

It was the final match of the 2021 season for the Golden Bears (8-19 overall, 3-11 PSAC East) and also the last match on the sideline for Gump, who finished off his 24th season at the helm. Gump is the winningest coach in KU volleyball history, earning over 400 career victories, finishing with 401 total. He ended his coaching career with 612 wins in 34 seasons as a head coach.

Kutztown scored the first point of the match on a kill by Sophia Basler (Dover, Del./Smyrna). KU held a 5-4 advantage after an attacking error by the Huskies (12-16, 6-8), but Bloomsburg scored four straight points and didn't trail for the remainder of the first set. The Huskies continued their surge in the next two sets to finish off the Golden Bears in straight sets.

Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) led the KU offense with eight kills and added three blocks. Basler and Julia Post (Sellersville, Pa./Pennridge) each had five kills, with Post earning a team-high four blocks. Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) recorded 18 assists and Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) contributed 13 digs to finish her career with 2,179 digs, second all-time in program history. Morrow ranks 10th all-time in program history with 1,210 career assists.

Kutztown will graduate four seniors, including Wilson, Patterson, Gianna Agosti (Nesquehoning, Pa./Marian Catholic) and Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove).
