CENTER VALLEY, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's cross country team hopes its latest meet is a preview for what's to come in its next meet. KU finished in second place out of 19 teams Saturday afternoon at the DeSales Invitational on the campus of DeSales University.
The Golden Bears' next competition is at home at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships on Friday, Oct. 22, at the North Campus course.
The Kutztown lineup featured two runners finish in the top-6 overall out of 179 runners, with
Erika Moriarty (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) and
Jaelyn D'Amelio (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern Regional) placed third and sixth respectively at 23:13.1 and 23:31.1. The leading runner out of Misericordia crossed the finish line at 22:48.9.
Sophia Knerr (Columbia, N.J./North Warren Regional) was 11th at 24:02.5.
Head coach
Ray Hoffman's lineup featured seven other runners, including
Mya Ostermiller (Red Bank, N.J./Middletown South) and
Olivia Bing (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), who placed 34th and 36th respectively, and
Devon Montanari (Northampton, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), who was 50th.
Julianna Elsesser (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) earned a personal-best time of 25:58.5.
Lynne O'Connor (Southampton, Pa./William Tennent),
Ashley Ryan (Macungie, Pa./Emmaus) and
Aleia Delgado (Dover, N.J./Morris Hills) rounded out the KU lineup.
Kutztown's next meet will be the PSAC Championships on its home course. The men's race will be at 11:45 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 22, on the North Campus course.
