Seventh-Ranked Kutztown Field Hockey Takes Down Mercyhurst 4-0

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Three different Kutztown University field hockey players scored Saturday as the Golden Bears took down Mercyhurst University, 4-0. The first half of the competition was tight, Kutztown led only by one at the break, but its lead would only grow during the second half. The Golden Bears improve to 11-4 on the season and 5-3 in conference.
 
Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) started the Kutztown offense early, scoring her first goal of the game in the sixth minute, assisted by Juliana Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Schalick). Kutztown would not score again before half, even though the offense tallied 15 shots before the break.
 
The Golden Bear offense continued its offensive attack in the second half, outshooting the Lakers 22-1. Kutztown had a total of 37 shots in the game, 22 of those on target. 
 
Breann Craley (York, Pa./Central York) scored her sixth goal of the year in the 39th minute on a rebound from a shot by Jilian Buchman. Not long after, Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) scored her second goal of the game, her ninth of the season, this one assisted by Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) extending the lead to 3-0.
 
Alyssa Donato (Cedarville, N.J./Cumberland Regional) would score a goal of her own and the final goal of the game in the 49th minute. Her shot, deflected by a Mercyhurst defender and passed the goalie.
 
Kutztown's defense was firing on all cylinders Saturday, the Lakers only had one shot throughout the entirety of the game. Jenna Cavalieri's shot that hit the cross bar in the third quarter was Mercyhurst's only opportunity in the game. 
 
The Golden Bears are back in action Wednesday, Oct. 27, at home against West Chester at 7 p.m.
