BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Junior
Claudia Makarski (Garfield, N.J./Paramus Catholic) pushed West Chester's Tori Alexander to the brink in their first round singles match before ultimately falling in a super tiebreaker in Saturday's PSAC Individual Championships at Bloomsburg University's Burt Reese Tennis Center.
Makarski and senior
Catherine Maher (Shillington, Pa./Berks Catholic) represented Kutztown on the women's side. The duo were eliminated in the opening round of the doubles draw and each dropped their respective singles matches despite valiant efforts.
Makarski bounced back from a 6-0 loss in the first set to emerge with a 7-6 (5) win in the second. Alexander would prevail, though, winning the battle to 10 points first, 10-6, in the super tiebreaker.
Maher was paired against Mercyhurst's Kayla Dean, who was seeded sixth in the draw. Dean moved into the round of 16 with a 6-1, 6-1 victory and later advanced into Sunday's quarterfinals.
West Chester's Alexander and Elaina Lee were Maher and Makarski's opponents in the opening round of the doubles bracket. Kutztown's tandem took two games in an 8-2 defeat.
The Golden Bears will continue their fall schedule with a trip to IUP and Seton Hill next Friday and Saturday.
