Kutztown football introduces 2020 roster additions

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The defending PSAC East champion Kutztown University football team inked 20 players on National Signing Day back in February and continued to fill out a strong class over the next month, culminating in Wednesday's announcement of the team's new additions for 2020.

Two-time Eastern Division Coach of the Year Jim Clements and his staff went heavy on the offensive and defensive perimeters, and in the trenches. Kutztown signed six offensive linemen and six defensive backs, class-highs for any position group, while also grabbing four wide receivers, three defensive linemen and a pair of tight ends. The Golden Bears rounded out their class with a single pickup at quarterback, running back, linebacker and kicker.

"We're excited about this group of student-athletes," said Clements. "They're all good teammates, work extremely hard and come highly recommended by their high school coaches. Our staff is confident that each of these guys fit the mold of what we envision for a successful Golden Bear and can help us continue to build a winning culture on and off the field here at Kutztown University."

The Golden Bears are coming off a 2019 season in which they tied a program record with 11 victories, won the PSAC East for the fourth time in school history and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II playoffs. Kutztown finished the year ranked 16th in the American Football Coaches' Association national poll.

There will be plenty of opportunity for returning and incoming players to make their mark with the program in 2020 with the graduation of eight all-conference honorees and 10 starters (six offensive, four defensive) from last year's team.

Since his arrival in 2014, Clements has transformed Kutztown into a consistent PSAC East title contender and one of the PSAC's elite teams. The newest Golden Bears come with tremendous scholastic credentials and accolades. Clements and his staff trust they will be impactful at the next level.

Kutztown opens the 2020 season on Saturday, Sept. 5, at Assumption.
