DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa. -- Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) compiled a 205.8 average to rank sixth of 59 bowlers and land a spot on the all-tournament team as the Kutztown University women's bowling team extended its winning streak to eight matches with a perfect Saturday in the Molloy Bowl for a Cure at Jay Lanes.
The Golden Bears came out strong with a 963-809 victory over Bloomfield to open the day. Reigning East Coast Conference Bowler of the Week
Lindsey Gotwalt (Hanover, Md./Meade) rolled a team-best 209, followed by
Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) with a 203 and Delp's 194. It was a nice performance top-to-bottom, as
Madison Burkert (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) put up a solid 189 and
Alexis Case (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) a 168 to round out the KU lineup.
Though the team's overall score slipped a bit in game two, a 189 from Delp and 169 by Goltwalt helped the Maroon and Gold (34-29) prevail against Coppin State, 791-786. From that point forward, however, Kutztown was on a mission.
Renee Riffey (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) entry into the lineup paid immediate dividends. The Maryland-born senior supplied a team-high 242, while Delp hit 200 on the head and Gotwalt followed at 191 to push Kutztown past Mercyhurst 959-896.
Four of the Golden Bears' five starters exceeded 200 in a 1028-1003 win over 21st-ranked Adelphi that moved KU to 4-0 on the day. The total pinfall was Kutztown's second-highest in a game this season behind only the 1033 rolled against Felician at the season-opening Bud Whitman Memorial back in October. Gotwalt's 233 led the way, while Delp continued to raise her game with a 221. Freshman
Rachel Wagner (Cheektowaga, N.Y./Depew) bowled a 205 and Riffey collected her second consecutive 200 game with a 204.
As a team, Kutztown produced its second straight 1000+ score to end the day with a 1019-994 victory over 24th-ranked Wilmington (Del.). Delp paved the way with her best game of the afternoon, a 225.
Ashley Fister (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) took advantage of her shot to roll a 213, while Gotwalt surpassed 200 for the third time in five games with a 205. Riffey's 193 and Wagner's 183 helped head coach
Angela Reynolds' team to its second win over a National Tenpin Coaches Association (NTCA) Top 25 team on the day and sixth in the last two tournaments.
Delp knocked down 1,029 pins in her five game series to pace KU, while Gotwalt was 10th in the individual standings with 1,007 total pins and a 201.4 average. Riffey averaged 213 (639 pins) in her three matches, while Wagner was at 181.3 in three games and Henry 170.25 in five.
Kutztown's 4,760 total pinfall as a team was good for fourth in the standings behind Mount Saint Mary's (4,976), Adelphi (4,959) and Wilmington (4,807).
The Golden Bears, who averaged 190.4 as a team, head back to Jay Lanes on Sunday to wrap up play with five Baker format matches. They'll face Wilmington at 9 a.m. to get the day started and are also slated to face No. 13 Mount Saint Mary's, Felician, Chestnut Hill and Molloy.
