Women’s rugby defeats Scranton on the road

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's rugby team was finally able to compete on the field and it came out successful, defeating the University of Scranton 39-12 on the road last Saturday afternoon.

The Golden Bears (2-0 overall) won their season-opener via forfeit in week one against East Stroudsburg. This week they were actually able to get out and compete.

Bekah Roux (Syracuse, N.Y./Baker) led the way with three tries, followed by one each from Sarah Masters (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy), Ana Malafu (Kihei, Hawaii/Maui), Tamlyn Cowan (Jefferson, N.J./Jefferson Township) and Alyssa Arena (Lititz, Pa./C Milton Wright). Cowan and Kathryne Wasdyke (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) both also slotted conversions.

Kutztown will remain on the road for its next match this Saturday, Oct. 5, at Saint Joseph's University at 11 a.m.
