DOUGLASSVILLE, Pa. -- Sophomore
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) put together an outstanding opening day at the Bowl for the KUre Tournament on Saturday at Jay Lanes, rolling a 1,002 series to earn All-Tournament Team status. Kutztown University split four traditional matches to take third.
Delp averaged 200.4 and produced three 200+ games on the day to place fifth in the individual standings. The Mifflinburg native placed fifth in the individual standings, one pin behind Molloy's Carly Licht for fourth and just 32 pins off Christina Del Vecchio's (Chestnut Hill) tournament-best total of 206.80.
With Bloomfield a late scratch from the tournament, the Golden Bears (46-47) drew a bye in the opening round of traditional match play. KU ended up with its best team score of the day in the round, rolling a 955.
Ashley Fister (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) paced the hosts with a 244,
Renee Riffey (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) followed with a 226 and
Laura Hartley (Mt Pleasant Mills, Pa./Midd-West) also topped 200 (206).
Delp recorded her best game of the day in round two with a 233 as the Bears collected a 956-928 victory over Molloy. Hartley (193) came up seven pins shy of back-to-back 200-plus games.
Wilmington (Del.) got the best of KU by 31 pins in round three, 924-893, despite a 200 from Delp. The Maroon and Gold quickly recovered to best Chestnut Hill 935-873 behind Delp's 222 and a 195 from sophomore
Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township).
Kutztown fell in its final match of the day, 899-814, to Daemen. Delp and Henry again registered KU's top two scores with a 171 and 169, respectively.
Though Delp was the only individual in the top 10 at day's end, Fister and Riffey were in the top 15. Fister had a 942 series (188.4 average) to place 12th and Riffey a 927 (185.4) for 14th. Kutztown had a total team pinfall of 4,593 (183.7 average).
The Golden Bears return to Jay Lanes tomorrow morning for Baker format matches to close out Bowl for the KUre. Kutztown opens with Roberts Wesleyan at 9 a.m. Following four matches, the team's standing will determine a fifth positioning match to close out play.
