Women's bowling takes on nationally-ranked opponents at Eastern Shore Hawk Classic

MILLSBORO, Del. -- Kutztown University women's bowling matched up with some of the nation's top teams in Saturday's traditional format play at the Eastern Shore Hawk Classic. The Golden Bears dropped head-to-head matches with five nationally-ranked opponents at Millsboro Lanes.

After facing four nationally-ranked teams in Friday's Baker format matches, the Golden Bears (21-21) matched up with two teams ranked in the top 10 of the NTCA Preseason Poll and another two situated inside the top 16.

No. 9 Fairleigh Dickinson defeated KU, 979-813, in Saturday's opening match. The Golden Bears also fell to No. 16 Saint Francis (Pa.), 979-869, No. 5 and tournament leader Sam Houston State, 1098-849, No. 14 Tulane, 999-841, and No. 25 Monmouth, 922-826.

Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) was Kutztown's top scorer that competed in all five matches, averaging 183.8 with a high game of 212. Alexis Case (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) followed with a 166.4 average and Renee Riffey (Glen Burnie, Md./North County) put up a 164.2.

Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) had the Bears' high game with a 226 against Tulane.

Kutztown wraps up play on Sunday with best-of-seven Baker bracket play. The Golden Bears are seeded 18th and face Saint Francis (Pa.) in their opening match at 8:30 a.m. KU can finish as high as 15th.
