NEW CASTLE, Del. -- Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg) and
Madison Burkert (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) were among the top 20 players in scoring average as Kutztown women's bowling jumped four spots to fifth with a strong Saturday at the Wilmington DII/DIII Invitational.
The Golden Bears produced a 3-2 record in traditional match play with a high score of 1,008 and two other matches in the 900s. In KU's remaining two matches, they missed reaching the 900-pin threshold by a combined 18 pins, and finished the day with a 186.96 team average to move up from their starting position of ninth.
Delp had the 16th best individual average on the day with a 194.6, while Burkert was 19th at 191.4. Placing in the top 30 were
Alexis Case (Ocean, N.J./Ocean Township) in 24th (182.8) and
Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) (182.0).
Delp rolled a 202 and Burkert 200 as Kutztown (19-10) started off with a 949-886 victory over Daemen. All five Golden Bears played well, with
Kelly Normandin (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst Central) registering a 190, Henry a 183 and Case a 174. Despite dropping its next match to Bloomfield, 971-893, Delp was even better with a 206 and case had her high-game of the day with a 205.
Kutztown's middle match ended with a 23-pin defeat against Chestnut Hill, 958-935. Burkert produced her second of three 200+ games with a 215, while
Molly Agnello (Stroudsburg, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) had a 206 upon joining the Bears' lineup.
The Maroon and Gold's best match of the day came in a 1008-841 drubbing of Mount Aloysius. Delp threw the best game of any KU player, finishing with a 227. Agnello backed up her first game with an even better 214 and Burkert also topped 200 (206).
KU finished the day with an 889-799 win over Felician. Henry showed the way this time with a 212.
For the first time this season, the Golden Bears will participate in bracket play when Sunday's best-of-seven matches commence beginning at 10 a.m. No. 5 Kutztown will face No. 6 Caldwell, which is receiving points in the NTCA Preseason Top 25. Caldwell held off the Bears 838-796 in Friday's opening Baker match. The Golden Bears can finish as high as third.
