JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team battled out west and came away with a 3-1 victory over Pitt-Johnstown University Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match.
The win is the first in the conference portion of the schedule for the Golden Bears (7-10 overall, 1-6 PSAC), who also snapped an eight-match losing streak. Scores of the match were 13-25, 27-25, 25-21 and 25-20.
Erin Patterson (Garnet Valley, Pa./Garnet Valley) and
Alli Henderson (Boalsburg, Pa./State College) were forces at the net, leading the team with 14 and 11 kills respectively. Henderson finished with a double-double, adding 17 digs to go along with two assists and two blocks.
Haylee Holsopple (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg) (7),
Britney Hewitt (East Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (6),
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) and
Lauren Jackson (Stafford, Va./Mountain View) also had days in front of net with multiple kills.
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) led the defense with 24 digs and added six assists.
Abbey James (York, Pa./West York Area) recorded 21 assists and eight digs, and
Lexi Morrow (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) contributed 15 assists and five digs in an all-around performance out of the Golden Bears.
Following a 25-13 setback in the opening set, it looked as if the Maroon and Gold were going to experience a setback on the road. But they showed grit and fight in bouncing back, not only to win the match with three consecutive set victories, but to finish close sets.
Kutztown will play a mid-week match at East Stroudsburg in PSAC action this coming Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. at Koehler Fieldhouse.
