SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. -- Sixth-ranked Shippensburg scored three second-half goals, including the game-winner with 3:48 remaining in the fourth quarter, to shock the fifth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team, 3-1, in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference matchup Saturday evening.
Leigh Roselli's (Romansville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) fourth goal of the season put Kutztown on top in the 26th minute, but it came on one of only two shots for the Golden Bears in the opening half.
Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) picked up her team-leading sixth assist of the year on Roselli's marker.
Early in the third quarter, Shippensburg (7-4, 4-1 PSAC) evened the score on Jazmin Petantonio's PSAC-leading 15th goal. The game would remain tied deep into the fourth quarter until Petrantonio found Jenna Sluymer off a corner for the go-ahead goal.
Adrienne McGarrigle added an insurance goal into an open cage with 1:02 remaining to seal the victory for the hosts. Ship avenged an early season non-conference loss to KU (8-4, 3-2) at Andre Reed Stadium with Saturday's result.
Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) made eight saves for the Bears. Shippensburg held a 17-5 shot advantage, including 11-3 on goal. Raider goalie Megan Lay made two saves opposite Hanshaw.
Kutztown returns home for a pair of games this coming week. It will face Millersville in a PSAC game on Wednesday at 7 p.m., and go out of conference to take on Mercy Thursday at 7 p.m.
