LIMERICK, Pa. – The 25th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team won its opening bracket round match, but fell in the next two matches to conclude day three's double-elimination, best-of-seven baker-style round Sunday and finish in 22nd place at the Kutztown Invitational at Limerick Bowl.
The Golden Bears (36-40 overall) opened Sunday winning four-of-the-five games of their first bracket round match against Wilmington, but the Wildcats would get the better of them in the end, taking down KU 4-3.5 to knock it out.
Kutztown also fell to Mount St. Mary's 4-3 in its second match of the day.
KU bowled a day-high score of 229 in the second match with Wilmington. In the deciding match of the day for the Maroon and Gold, the two teams split the first two games and then tied the third. The Wildcats took the next two and then the Golden Bears took the final two, but Wilmington would advance after winning a roll off 92-75.
Laura Hartley (Mt Pleasant Mills, Pa./Midd-West) led KU with a 20.5 frame average through 39 frames.
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) and
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) both had 19.7 averages in 39 frames and
Ashley Fister (Northumberland, Pa./Shikellamy) finished with a 19.1 frame average in 11 frames.
Kutztown will next compete at the Red Flash Invitational in Altoona beginning on Friday, Jan. 25.
