BLOOMSBURG, Pa. -- Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg) of the Kutztown University women's tennis team won two games in their doubles match Saturday morning in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships at Bloomsburg University to highlight action on the first day.
 
Malik and Pursell were eventually downed 8-2 by Mercyhurst University's Kayla Frost and Sangeeta Roopan. It was the second straight year for the duo competing together at PSAC's.
 
Ashley Carter (Eynon, Pa./Valley View) and Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) both competed in singles action and were on the wrong ends of their first round matches. Carter won a game in the first set, but eventually fell. It was the first time competing at the PSAC Championships for both Carter and Navarro.
 
Kutztown returns to the courts on Friday, Oct. 5 at Clarion University for a 4 p.m. match.
