Field Hockey Blanks Seton Hill

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team continued to display its offensive prowess on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Seton Hill University Griffins 4-0 in non-conference action.

Winners of four straight, KU (5-1) played a complete game, dominating the possession in the Griffin defensive end while outshooting SHU 34-0. It took 14 first-half shots for Kutztown to first break through as Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin) opened the scoring with her seventh goal of the season at the 32:23 mark in the opening period.

Using Wozniak's goal as the catalyst, the Maroon and Gold continued their offensive onslaught into the second half as Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) scored in the 38th and 50th minutes to put KU ahead 3-0. Izzy Radel (Harveys Lake, Pa./Lake-Lehman) tallied her first goal of the season at the 62:42 mark on an assist from Hannah Shirk (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg Area (Slippery Rock)) to cement the 4-0 final for Kutztown.

With the attacking firepower shown by head coach Marci Scheuing's squad, credit must be given to SHU's goalkeepers, whom made a combined 24 saves, keeping the game tight, especially in the opening 35 minutes.

In net for KU, Katie Dotterweich (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) earned the decision, playing 55 minutes and improving her record to 5-1. Kerri Hanshaw (Collegeville, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) relieved Dotterweich for the final 14 minutes of action with neither facing a shot.

At 5-1, Kutztown has now gotten off to its best six-game start in Scheuing's tenure, outscoring its opponents 17-4 in those six contests.

The Maroon and Gold will have their final non-conference home contest in their next competition, taking on Mansfield at 3 p.m. on Sept. 25.
