Dusman Scores Twice as No. 9 Golden Bears Win at Home Tuesday Night over Mansfield

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Freshman Rachel Dusman (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) scored twice and added an assist to lead the ninth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team to a 3-0 non-conference win over Mansfield University Tuesday night at Andre Reed Stadium.

The Golden Bears (6-1), who returned to the national poll earlier Tuesday, are off to their best start since 2011. A win Saturday at Mercyhurst would mark KU's best start since 2008.

Kutztown's defense entered the game second in the country in goals-allowed per game and continues to move in the right direction with its fourth shutout of the year.

Dusman scored her fifth goal of the season to open Tuesday night's win. Teammate Rose Moore (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) sent a flurry of shots on goal in the second minute and followed on her third attempt with a cross-pass to Dusman for KU's opening goal.

KU held a 21-0 advantage in shots and 11-0 in corners in the first half, but Mansfield's All-America goalkeeper Brittany Ryan stood tall with 11 first-half saves. She finished with 12.

Dusman then scored three minutes into the second half. Molly Bobjak (New Castle, Del./Padua Academy) found Dusman with a pass on the right side of the circle as Dusman shot across the keeper to score inside the left post.

Kyra Wozniak (Plains, Pa./James M. Coughlin), the conference's second-leading scorer, added her eighth goal of the year in the 51st minute off an assist by Dusman.

For the game, Kutztown outshot Mansfield 27-2 and won corners 13-3. Notably, Mansfield entered the game leading the country in corners per game (14.67), while Kutztown ranked third (14.5).

Kutztown hits the road this weekend to Erie. Action at Mercyhurst on Saturday, Sept. 29, is set to start at 1 p.m.
