Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team suffered its third consecutive loss to begin Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Friday evening, falling in heartbreaking fashion to Slippery Rock University in five sets.
KU (6-6, 0-3 PSAC) showed its ability to finish in the first two frames, using 3-0 runs to close out each set. However, the Rock wouldn't go quietly staring at this large deficit, winning the final three sets to claim the 3-2 win in dramatic fashion in front of its home crowd.
Kutztown's primary offensive options,
Holly Owen (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) and
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)), combined for 34 of the Maroon and Gold's 49 kills, with each posting double-digit kills for the fourth time this season. Owen's 21 individual kills matches her career-high recorded on Sept. 1, 2018 at West Virginia State.
Lilly Charlton (Landenberg, Pa./Avon Grove) had perhaps her best match in a Kutztown uniform, posting six kills and 4.0 total blocks with a blistering .545 attack percentage. Setter
Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) recorded her first double-double of the season with 18 assists and 13 digs, adding two service aces. On the backline,
Sydney Wilson (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) racked up a team-high 20 digs, her sixth time with 20+ digs in KU's first 12 matches.
Untimely errors contributed to Kutztown's unraveling as the Golden Bears made 17 attacking errors in the final three sets after totaling just eight in the first two. SRU's offense also played a major part in in its comeback, outhitting KU for the match 63-49 in kills and .236-.158 in attack percentage. The Rock's serving game also picked up in the final three sets as five of its eight service aces came after it was down 2-0.
