SHEPHERDSTOWN, W. Va. – Led by second-half goals from
Kristina Miller (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) and
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico), the Kutztown University women's soccer team secured a 2-0 victory over the Shepherd University Rams in its final non-conference game of the 2018 season.
The Golden Bears showed no ill effects against the Rams despite a quick turnaround after a tough overtime loss to Slippery Rock in the prior match.
Kutztown came out firing, outshooting the Rams 24-3 and applying heavy offensive pressure for the full 90 minutes. After a scoreless first half, Miller put KU on the board in the 52nd minute (51:26), converting on a chance set up by
Schyler Ackerman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield).
Zwiercan added her second goal of the season at the 70:48 mark, scoring an unassisted tally to move the Golden Bears in front 2-0. The defense, which is yet to surrender a goal in regulation through three matches, saw this advantage to the finish line, not allowing a shot in the second half.
14 different Kutztown players registered at least one shot in the match paced by
Brittany Arentz (Mount Wolf, Pa./Northeastern) and
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East), whom each had four total shots and two on goal.
Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) (1-0) made two saves, going the distance to record the clean sheet in goal.
KU resumes its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) slate on Wednesday, Sept. 5, traveling to Lock Haven University for a 4 p.m. start.
