KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University baseball team continued its weekend series with Mansfield University on the same note as it left from Mansfield's campus in the day prior, with a win. KU won game one 4-2, its third of the series, before rain suspended play in the top of the fifth inning of game two Saturday afternoon at North Campus Field with Mansfield leading KU 4-1 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.

Game two between these two teams has been cancelled.

KU honored nine seniors prior to game one. The student-athletes honored were David Brown (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham), Brady Carras (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville Area), Ryan Cox (Aliquippa, Pa./Hopewell (St. Bonaventure)), Zack Delp (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), Anthony DeVito (Philadelphia, Pa./Central (Mercer County C.C.)), Josh Houser (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock (Harford C.C.)), Mike Kammerer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic), Dariel Richardson (Reading, Pa./Reading) and Kevin Sell (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights).

Kutztown is back on the field in two days, taking on Albright College on Monday, Apr. 30 at FirstEnergy Stadium in Reading. Game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Game One

The senior Richardson helped get KU on the scoreboard with an RBI sacrifice fly in the second inning. After the Mountaineers tied the game in their next at-bats, KU scored three runs in the bottom half of the third inning, recording three hits and recording two RBI from Collin Bishop (Laurel Springs, N.J./Highland Regional) and one from Nick Lafferty (Croydon, Pa./Archbishop Wood).

That was essentially all junior starting pitcher Michael Hunter (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) needed, throwing five-plus innings, allowing just two hits and one earned run. He threw 100 pitches and earned his fifth victory of the season, improving his record to 5-2. Zach Moretski (Harleysville, Pa./La Salle College H.S.) and Gavilan Fogarty-Harnish (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) pitched the sixth and seventh innings respectively, with Fogarty-Harnish earning the save, his fifth of the season, tied for eighth in program history for saves in a season.

The Golden Bears (18-17 overall, 12-11 PSAC) were patient at the plate, walking five times and working each count. They chased Mansfield's starter after 52 pitches and just two-plus innings.

Tanner Miller (Elizabethville, Pa./Upper Dauphin) had two of Kutztown's five hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored. Bo Rottet (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) went 1-for-2 with a run scored and Mike Villa (Scranton, Pa./West Scranton) added a hit for KU. Cox also scored a run for the Maroon and Gold, while working two walks.
