KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team prepares for a tough spring break as it will play three games in one week. The Golden Bears (2-1) look to bounce back from their last game, a 16-6 loss to Grand Valley State last Saturday, Mar. 3, the only blemish they have on their record this season.
Kutztown begins its journey on Saturday, Mar. 10, when it travels to Lakewood, N.J. to play Georgian Court University. The Lions (1-4) have already played two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams, as they lost to No. 23 Lock Haven 16-10 and No. 16 West Chester 20-4.
The Golden Bears will then travel to Hilton Head, S.C. to take on Post University on Monday, Mar. 12. The Eagles (0-3) have lost their first three games on the season.
Finally, KU travels to Indiana, Pa. to begin PSAC action when it takes on the Indiana (PA) Crimson Hawks on Saturday, Mar. 17. The Crimson Hawks (2-0) have allowed just 10 goals in their first two games of the season against Alderson Broaddus and Wilmington.
The Golden Bears are led by junior
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) on the offensive side of the field, as she leads the team in goals (eight) and points (12), while ranking second on the team with four assists.
Senior
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) comes in this stretch leading the Golden Bears with six assists, second in points (11), and tied for third in goals (five).
On defense, freshman
Devon Fitzpatrick (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) leads Kutztown with six caused turnovers. Sophomore
Destanee Watkins (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) leads the team with 10 groundballs. Junior
Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) has a team-high nine draw controls.
In goal, freshman
Haley Kline (Reading, Pa./Wilson West Lawn) has recorded 25 saves in three games and holds a .500 save percentage in that span. Kline's 25 saves is the most by a freshman since the 2015 season (74).
