Elyssa Tomczyk (Plainville, Conn./Plainville) won her No. 6 singles match Friday morning to highlight the Kutztown University women's tennis team's 8-1 loss to Quincy University, capping KU's annual spring break trip in Hilton Head.
Tomczyk rattled off her first win since the season-opener against Holy Family. In a one-set showdown, she took down Quincy's Maria Peterson 8-1 for her second win of the year at the sixth flight.
Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) won eight games at No. 2 singles. She took the first set to tiebreakers, dropping a 7-6 final, before winning two games in the second set in a 7-6, 6-2 decision.
In doubles action, the duo of
Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Kara Urland (Saylorsburg, Pa./Pleasant Valley) won a team-high four games at the No. 1 flight in an 8-4 setback. Capoferri took her singles match to tiebreakers in the second set, falling 6-2, 7-5.
Kutztown returns home and enters conference-play next week, beginning with West Chester University on Wednesday, March 21, at 2 p.m. from Keystone Courts.
