DOUGLASVILLE, Pa. – Playing host to the Bowling for a KUre Tournament at Jay Lanes, the Kutztown University women's bowling team's
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) and
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) were named to the All-Tournament team, pacing KU to a 4-1 record on the day.
The Golden Bears battled with a tough Molloy squad to open the one-day tournament, outlasting the Lions 899-879. Facing off with Wilmington for the fourth time this season in their next match, the Maroon and Gold kept their unblemished record intact, taking their fourth straight meeting with the Wildcats, 869-820.
Carrying momentum from two straight victories, KU was rolling from the opening frame in its third match of the day, taking on St. Thomas Aquinas and defeating the Spartans, 947-471, a margin of 470-plus pins.
In the final two matches, Kutztown split in 10-game Baker Style competition with Saint Francis Brooklyn and Chestnut Hill, winning 4-of-5 matches today. KU lost a tight one against SFC, dropping the match to the Terriers by a total of 18 pins, 1777-1759. The last match of the day pitted the Maroon and Gold against CHC with the Golden Bears finishing the day on a winning note, 1776-1684, their fourth win in five tries over the Griffins.
Kozma posted a 19.2 frame average on the day, second highest among all participants. Fitts held an 18.8 frame average as both Kutztown and St. Francis Brooklyn had two All-Tournament Team selections.
KU will have hosting duties in back-to-back weekends, welcoming its opponents to Berks Lanes in Reading for the Golden Bear Classic Feb. 9-11.
