PREVIEW: Men's Basketball Looks to Head Into Postseason With Some Momentum

KU Game Notes | Live Stats | Live Video

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team saw a four-game winning streak come to an end after a 102-91 loss to East Stroudsburg University last Wednesday, Feb. 21. In its final Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) regular season game at Lock Haven University Saturday, Feb. 24, KU looks to start another streak to end the season on a high note, and give itself momentum heading into the PSAC Tournament next week. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Golden Bears (19-6 overall, 15-6 PSAC) led for just 2:02 in the game against the Warriors, and got a game-high 28 points from redshirt-junior guard Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington), with three others reaching double-digit scoring. Four of the five starters scored in double-figures, led by Lee's 28. Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) had 14, senior Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) tallied 13 and Max Wagner (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge) added 11. But it was not enough as ESU went over the century mark for the second straight meeting this season, and had seven players record double-digits in points, and eight players score at least six points.

Kutztown clinched the four-seed and will host fifth-seed Bloomsburg University in the first round of the PSAC Tournament on Monday, Feb. 26. The six seeds are set, with ESU and West Chester at one and two, followed by Shippensburg at three, KU, Bloomsburg and Millersville rounding out the six teams in the playoffs.

Before the postseason, however, the Maroon and Gold travel to the Bald Eagles (8-17, 6-15) Saturday, looking for the season sweep. KU took down LHU 91-75 back on Jan. 24 behind a game-high 26 points from Lee. Kutztown has won the last five meetings between the two teams.

Kutztown leads the PSAC with a 49.1 percent shooting from the field, and shot 51.4 percent vs. ESU. KU is also second in scoring at 88.1 points per game (ppg). Lock Haven is in the middle of the pack (ninth) at 78.1 ppg, and shoots 44.8 percent from the floor, 13th in the league.

Lee is third in the PSAC in scoring (21.8 ppg) and fifth in steals (2.0 spg). He is also third in NCAA Division II in 3-point percentage (50.3) and is fifth in the PSAC in field-goal percentage (54.5) and third in free-throw percentage (88.3). No player in KU history has finished a season with a 90 percent or better mark with at least 40 made free-throws. Ridgeway leads Div II in assists per game (8.2), and fourth among active career assists leaders (670). He is also fifth in PSAC history in career assists. Williams is seventh in the PSAC in rebounds per game (8.5). Williams has six double-doubles this season, including four straight, the first time a KU player has had four straight double-doubles since Eric Brennen during the 2011-12 season.

The Bald Eagles are led in most categories by do-it-all junior Amir Hinton. Hinton is just above Lee, second in the PSAC in scoring at 23.4 ppg. He also leads his team in rebounding (6.7 rpg), assists (2.8 apg) and steals (2.4 spg). The key to beating Lock Haven, is slowing down Hinton.
