KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team hits the road and travels west for another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) game against a western division opponent when it takes on Pitt-Johnstown tomorrow, Saturday, Dec. 8, at 3 p.m. at the Sports Center.

The Golden Bears (5-3 overall, 1-1 PSAC) had a three-game week last week, all at home, going 2-1 with a non-conference win over Jefferson (11/28) and a victory against Clarion (12/2), while dropping a nail-biter in overtime versus third-ranked IUP (12/1).

Trailing by five points at halftime, KU turned it on in the second half, outscoring Jefferson University by six and holding on for a 76-75 victory. It was the third win in a row at Keystone Arena and fifth in the last six games.

Kutztown is 2-2 on the road with both losses by a combined 5 points.

The Maroon and Gold saw their second attempt this season at a top-three nationally-ranked victory fall just short with a 96-87 defeat to unbeaten and third-ranked Indiana (PA) last Saturday after Kiyon Hardy's (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) tip-in at the buzzer to force overtime. But the Crimson Hawks rattled off 17 of the last 23 points to seal the win.

A quick 24-hour turnaround, Kutztown, ahead 46-31 at halftime, cruised to its first PSAC win of the season, downing the Clarion University Golden Eagles, 87-70 last Sunday.

Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington), who was voted the PSAC East Athlete of the week this week, led all scorers with 37 points, four shy from his career-high set earlier this season. He has scored in double-digits for the 37th consecutive game. Lee shot 12-of-16 (75%) overall from the floor and 5-of-7 (71.5%) from three-point land. Lee leads the PSAC in scoring at 26.0 points per game (ppg).

The KU offense ranks second in the PSAC in scoring at 86.0 ppg, while UPJ ranks first at 89.0 ppg.

Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) has four double-doubles this season. He ranks first in the PSAC at 9.8 rpg. Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) has started seven-of-eight games, a career-high, and is averaging a best 9.8 ppg, 2.5 rpg and 3.1 apg. He ranks fifth in the PSAC with a 2.8 assist-turnover ratio. Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) has started the last three games and is averaging 10 ppg (third on KU) and 7.6 rpg (second).

Hardy has started six-of-eight games and is fifth on the team with a 7.8 scoring average. He is averaging 2.3 apg and 4.3 rpg. Facundo Arens (Buenos Aires, Argentina/Bahia Blanca) is one of three Golden Bears to start all eight games. He is averaging 6.8 ppg and is shooting 50-percent (5-of-10) from three-point range.

Freshman Da'Quan Granberry (Linwood, Pa./Chichester) has played in every game this season and is averaging 9.5 ppg over the last two games, including tying a season-high with 11 points against IUP. Classmate Austin Laughlin (Glen Mills, Pa./Garnet Valley) has also seen action in every game, averaging 3.0 ppg.

Pitt-Johnstown enters the game also at a 5-3 mark overall and 1-1 record in the PSAC. Like Kutztown, UPJ also has a top-25 win, taking down No. 16 Virginia State 59-58 on Nov. 9. The Mountain Cats defeated the University of the Sciences 82-54 on Nov. 24, an opponent KU also defeated 76-71 10 days prior. The Mountain Cats are coming off a 76-71 loss to No. 20 Shippensburg, and are led by Josh Wise, who ranks eighth in the PSAC at 19.0 ppg.

The Golden Bears and the Mountain Cats have not met since Dec. 3, 2016, a 96-90 KU win, also on the road.
