Kutztown wraps up season with loss to Mansfield

MANSFIELD, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team finished its 2025-26 campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Mansfield Mountaineers, 106-79, inside the Marion Decker Gymnasium, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division action.

The Golden Bears (6-20, 3-18 PSAC) sought to finish the season on a high note, but that was what remained on the year for the opposing Mountaineers (4-23, 3-18 PSAC), who tapped into all that was left as it brought home the victory and secured two wins in its final three games.

Mansfield paced itself in the early minutes of the period before stretching the lead out to 15 points nearly eight minutes into the contest. With Kutztown down 52-36 at the break, the visitors made adjustments and found themselves draining more baskets and converting on 13-of-15 free throws in the second period, but the Mounties' hot shooting afternoon would be the difference in its season-ending home victory.

Senior Jordan Nkoa Abessolo (Yaoundé, Cameroon/St. Maria Goretti (Md.)) led the team with a 20-point, 10-rebound double-double, while adding a pair of steals and draining all six of his free throw attempts. Amon Fowlkes (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) had 11 points and a team-leading six assists, while Jayden Robinson (Lansdowne, Pa./Lower Merion) finished the day with 11 points, four rebounds and four assists in defeat.

The home team was anchored by a pair of 20-point scoring guards in Sterling Scott (23 points) and Juju Pagan (Tobyhanna, Pa./Pocono Mountain West) (21 points).

Graduate student Jalen Bryant (Edgewood, Md./John Carroll), a five-year starting guard for the Golden Bears, caps off his career with 1,759 points (4th all-time at KU), 388 of which came in the 2025-26 season. He also posted an 88 percent free-throw mark (8th best in a season), while raising his career free-throw efficiency to 87.3 percent (3rd best in program history).

Kutztown caps off its season with a 6-19 record in its first year under Interim Head Men's Basketball Coach Tom York, a mark that included six home victories and a trio of wins against strong, PSAC opponents. The team looks ahead to a bright future as everyone adds a year under their belt while the team gains a number of new recruits as it looks ahead to the 2026-27 season.
