KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 16th-ranked Kutztown University wrestling team won seven of its ten bouts, cruising to a 26-11 win over the 21st-ranked Seton Hill University Griffins in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action on Saturday night inside of Keystone Arena.
James Meyer (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) highlighted the Golden Bears' dominating performance with a 6-4 decision over sixth-ranked Damon Greenwald at 174 lbs., his first career defeat of a nationally-ranked opponent.
Matt Wilde (Boyertown, Pa./Boyertown Area (Ursinus)) got the dual off to a rousing start for the Golden Bears, making quick work of SHU's Brady Sherback with a 22-3 tech. fall 5:24 into the bout.
At 141 lbs.,
Anthony Petril (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby (Ursinus)) picked up his first dual victory of the year with an 8-4 decision over the Griffins' Tyler Kenney to extend KU's early lead 8.0-3.0.
Chad Haegele (Warrington, Pa./Archbishop Wood) at 157 lbs. and
Mikey O'Brien (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) at 165 lbs. teamed up with Meyer to push the Maroon and Gold to three-straight wins in the middle portion of the dual. Meyer's victory put Kutztown ahead 19.0-6.0, a lead the Golden Bears would see to the finish line.
Jeff Reimel (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn), who made an appearance at 197 lbs., and Andrew Dunn, KU's heavyweight both recorded wins over their opponents to put a bow on the 26.0-11.0 triumph for Kutztown.
KU prepares for the PSAC Championships next Saturday, Dec. 8 for its next competition as the host school for the first time since 2012.
