KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The 24th-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team secured a third-place finish at the Mount Saint Mary's Invite, which concluded its final round on Sunday in Waynesboro.
The Golden Bears went 2-2 over their four matches today, downing Howard University and Mount Aloysius College in the third-place match. Winners of three matches on the weekend, KU needs just four more wins to notch its 800th in school history.
As a team, the Maroon and Gold had five different bowlers with frame averages of 17+.
Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) led the Golden Bears with a frame average of 20.7 pins per frame, bowling in 42 frames.
Dana Henry (Oakhurst, N.J./Ocean Township) and
Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) rounded out KU's top-three performers, posting frame averages of 17.7 and 17.6, respectively.
Facing off with top-ranked No. 13 Saint Francis (PA) in the positional round to open the second day of competition, KU suffered a setback, falling to the Red Flash 1015-869. Kutztown then got back on track, totaling nearly 1,000 pins itself in a 990-819 victory over Howard to even its record at 1-1 on the day.
Falling to host-Mount Saint Mary's (MD) 4-0 in the semifinal round, the Maroon and Gold were then slotted into the third-place match with Mount Aloysius. KU pulled out a tight contest to take third, winning 4-3.
Kutztown will travel to Rockaway, N.J. for next weekend's competition, participating in the Caldwell Classic from Oct. 26-28.
