KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The eighth-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team continued its undefeated week by showing its depth and scoring prowess featuring seven different goal scorers in a 7-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) win over Mansfield Friday afternoon at Keystone Field on Homecoming weekend.
The Golden Bears (11-2 overall, 9-2 PSAC) had their largest margin of victory and scored the most goals this season and the most since they scored seven on Senior Day in November of 2013.
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico) tallied her team-leading 10th goal of the season, which ranks fourth in the PSAC, in just the third minute. Zwiercan's goal started a barrage of six first half goals from six different KU players.
Schyler Ackerman (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield),
Gabby Kane (Royersford, Pa./Spring-Ford) and
Tori Angelus (Little Egg Harbor Twp, N.J./Pinelands Regional (Duquesne)) all scored their first goals of the season for Kutztown, which predominantly was forced to shoot from long distance due to the Mounties defensive formation.
Kayla Argen (Cresco, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) and
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) also recorded first half goals, the second of the season for both players.
The seventh goal from a seventh individual came in the second half off the foot of
Savanna Harrison (Perkasie, Pa./Pennridge), who found the back of the net for the first time in her career.
Junior goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional), the program's all-time leader in career wins and shutouts, received the start and recorded the win, her 10th of the season and 30th over the course of her career. She finished with one save on the day. Senior captain
Imani Taylor (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional) played all of the second half in goal for KU and stopped two shots.
Head coach
Erik Burstein was able to play 30 different players over the course of the game, the most this season.
Kutztown will now hit the road to take on Indiana (PA) on Sunday, Oct. 14 at 1:30 p.m. The Crimson Hawks came out on the winning end last season on the field of Keystone, knocking off KU when it was ranked No. 2 in the country.
Motivation will be there.
