READING, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team went 3-2 Friday with two wins over nationally-ranked teams as the Golden Bears stand in 17th place after day one of the KU Invitational at Hiester Lanes – the largest NCAA tournament in the country.
Kutztown averaged an impressive 190.2 pins per match in Friday's baker-style action. KU posted a day-high of 998 twice and posted 900+ scores in 4-of-5 matches.
Kutztown opened the day with a 964-914 win over No. 24 Monmouth and followed with a 998-976 win over Norfolk State to start the day 2-0. No. 14 Alabama-Birmingham handed KU its first loss of the day at 967-935, but answered with another nationally-ranked win: 998-933 over No. 18 Wisconsin-Whitewater.
KU ended the day with an 868-856 setback to Medaille.
McKendree leads day one, followed by Vanderbilt, Fairleigh Dickinson and Arkansas State.
