QUAKERTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University softball team was eliminated from the conference tournament Thursday morning, falling 7-1 to Shippensburg University on the second day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships at Veterans Park in Quakertown.
The Golden Bears (30-15) now await their NCAA Tournament fate, to be announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, May 8 at 10 a.m.
KU and Shippensburg went two scoreless innings before the Raiders struck first with a run in the third inning. They carried the 1-0 lead into the fifth, until they struck for three runs for a 4-0 lead through five. A bases-clearing double in the sixth seemingly put the game out of reach as Shippensburg led 7-0 with KU down to its final six outs.
Pitcher
Savannah Nierintz (Clifton Heights, Pa./Upper Darby) drove in KU's lone run of the day, scoring
Tamara Jennings (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) from third in the bottom of the sixth. KU managed four hits on the day, compared to Shippensburg's 11.
