EAST BRUNSWICK, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team entered day two of competition at the Hawk Flight Invite on Saturday facing some intense competition from three ranked opponents, ending the day with a 2-3 record.
 
The Golden Bears (50-58) suffered a setback in its first match of the day against No. 4 Sam Houston State, 998-803.
 
Despite dropping its first match, KU rallied to defeat its next two opponents. First came LIU Post, who the Golden Bears finished with a close lead over the Pioneers, 811-778. A match-high score of 205 from Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) then helped secure a win in the third contest of the day over Saint Peter's, 845-757.
 
The Maroon and Gold finished the day with tough competition from its final two opponents, No. 5 Vanderbilt and No. 16 LIU Brooklyn. KU fell to Vanderbilt by a close ten-pin margin (896-886) before closing the day with a loss to LIU Brooklyn (896-850).
 
Fitts led the Golden Bears with an average of 182.2 on the day, followed by Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) with 174.
 
Kutztown finished day two holding steady in 13th of 16 teams in attendance.
 
Action continues tomorrow, Sunday, March 5, for the third and final day of the Hawk Flight Invite, beginning at 9 a.m.
