HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Yasmeen Malik (Wernersville, Pa./Conrad Weiser) and Taylor Capoferri (Lancaster, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) won both of their matches Friday to lead the Kutztown University women's tennis team to its first victory of the year in a 6-3 win over Fairmont State University in the team's final match of spring break in Hilton Head.
 
Kutztown opened the day winning 2-of-3 doubles matches, as all three matches were determined by three games or less. Capoferri and Alyssa Konas (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) teamed up at the No. 1 flight for an 8-5 victory.
 
KU dropped the second flight, but rallied with a 9-7 victory at No. 3 by Malik and Ashley Carter (Eynon, Pa./Valley View).
 
Moving into singles, Capoferri won at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 7-6. Malik won 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3 singles to highlight the duos pair of victories Friday.
 
Alicia Pursell (Hamburg, Pa./Hamburg Area) was victorious at the fourth flight with a narrow, 6-4, 6-4 decision. Shadimon Navarro (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) capped KU's winners with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.
 
The Golden Bears return home for their spring home-opener on Monday, March 20 at 2:30 p.m. against Harford Community College at Keystone Courts.
