Women's Bowling Opens Play at Hawk Classic

Day One Standings

MILLSBORO, D.E. – The Kutztown University women's bowling team won its first match of the day, but had a rough go of its remaining matches, having played five ranked opponents and finished 1-4 on day one of the University of Maryland Eastern Shore Hawk Classic Friday afternoon.
 
The Golden Bears scored their highest team total of the day in match one, and took down No. 9 Sacred Heart 951-912. It avenges a loss in the last match between the two teams when Kutztown fell 956-934 on Nov. 3.
 
The next four matchups with ranked opponents did not fare as well.
 
Kutztown lost consecutive matches to No. 14 Saint Francis (984-808), No. 16 LIU Brooklyn (943-860), No. 21 Saint Francis Brooklyn (893-836) and to No. 17 Tulane (963-835).
 
Jaime Golden (Sparta, N.J./Sparta) had a high frame average of 18.47 through 20 frames, leading KU.
 
Jenn Fitts (Birdsboro, Pa./Twin Valley) had a 17.93 frame average through 43 frames, Keanna Delp (Mifflinburg, Pa./Mifflinburg Area) was 17.69 through 44 frames, and Angela Kozma (Beachwood, N.J./Toms River South) ended the day with a 17.53 frame average through 50 frames.
 
The Maroon and Gold sit 14th out of 16 total teams in the Classic with 4,290 points.
 
Kutztown is 21-11 overall on the season and has five wins over ranked opponents.
 
Day two of the UMES Hawk Classic begins tomorrow, Nov. 18, at 9:55 a.m. KU will once again have multiple ranked matchups against the likes of host No. 7 Maryland Eastern Shore and No. 12 Delaware State.
